Pastor Doug Thompson Receives First-ever Camp Changes Lives Award

There is something special about West Ohio Camps. Is it the facilities? Sure. The campers? Of course! The staff? Certainly. But, there is one constant at camp that stands out from the rest.  That is Pastor Doug Thompson.

Pastor Doug Thompson received the first-ever "Camp Changes Lives" award at the 2018 Annual Conference of the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Camp Widewater. Pastor Doug has been a part of West Ohio Camps for 31 years.

Thompson is a staple at all three West Ohio Camps. He serves about six weeks every summer as ‘Pastor of the Week.’ So as a spiritual leader he is also participates in each day’s activities with campers and staff. Doug is always ready and never afraid to jump in where help is needed, or to take the challenge of mentoring kids and even our staff members. He hears the hardships of many lives, but is never burdened, tired or early to depart. Pastor Doug serves year-round in all capacities, from work projects and meetings to Confirmation and Winter Camp. He is always willing to lend a hand.

Doug currently has served three years on the Camps & Retreats Ministry Team. He is senior pastor for a two-point charge at West Mansfield UMC Big Springs UMC.

Pastor Doug Thompson is a fearless model of a camp supporter. His passion for camping and youth is contagious. We are so thankful for Doug and his passion for camps. This is why we proudly honor him with the first-ever Camps & Retreats “Camp Changes Lives” award.
