The West Ohio Camps’ experience is about fun, friendship, and especially faith. To enhance that faith component, several pastors join our camps each summer as Pastors of the Week. Their involvement greatly enhances our camps’ Christian ministry.

Camp Wesley was honored to have several pastors join camp this summer who are quite familiar with the surroundings. They were:

  • Pastor Gary Wheeler serves at Germantown UMC. Rev. Gary was on staff at Camp Wesley during the 1980s as a seminary student. He has served the past three summers as Pastor of the Week for one week of camp.  He has also served as Pastor of the Week for Winter Camp and during Camp Wesley’s confirmation retreat in the spring.
  • Pastor Matt Overman serves at Grand Lake UMC. Pastor Matt has served each summer as Pastor of the Week during Ranch Camp week for the past ten years. Pastor Matt has also served at Winter Camp.
  • Pastor Benji Sayer from Clifton UMC in Cincinnati serves each summer during the Ohio River Valley week.  Pastor Benji was also on staff at Camp Wesley during his college years.

Two pastors from Northwest Ohio joined Camp Widewater as Pastors of the Week for the first time this summer. They were:

  • Pastor Mary Kay is from Christ UMC in Napoleon. This was her first year serving. She served for Grand Adventure and Explorer's
  • Pastor Debo (Adebowale  Onabanjo ) is from Toledo Zion UMC. It was his first year serving as well. He served for H2Oly and Have a Hoot Camps.

Camp Otterbein had several pastors serving a multitude of campers during many camps this summer. They were:

  • Pastor Joel Harbarger from Monroe UMC and Katie Steele from Newtown UMC served as Pastors of the Week during week 3 for Adventure Camp.
  • Pastor Jay Moyers from Mt. Sterling UMC kept busy during week 4. He was Pastor of the Week for Adventure Camp, Science and Invention Camp and Treehouse Paradise.
  • Pastor Dan Fuchs from The Plains UMC served at camp in July during our Otterbein and Treehouse Sleepovers.
  • Pastor Angie Sherer from Pataskala UMC service as Pastor of the Week during Family Camp.

Finally, we come to Pastor Doug Thompson from Marysville UMC. Pastor Doug served as Pastor of the Week at all three camps for several weeks this summer. He has been part of the camp ministry for decades. This year his services were recognized with the first ever Camp Changes Lives Award.

We would like to extend a big thank you to each and every one of our Pastors of the Week. We hope to see them back next summer.
