Called to Preach
LSM Advanced Course
Instructor: Rev. Debra Ketcham and Rev. Theresa Wallington-Tipton
Called to Preach is designed for those who have not had formal preaching training or who seek a basic refresher course. It is the required preaching course in the lay speaker track of study, covering topics like choosing scripture, finding a focus, writing and presenting the sermon. Also, we will discuss navigating the challenges of preaching in-person vs. in similar online environments. Instructors are Rev. Debra Ketchem and Rev. Theresa Wallington-Tipton.
The class will meet at Parkview UMC, 344 S Algonquin Ave, Columbus, OH 43204, on November 8th from 8:30am- 4:30pm for instruction and on November 15th from 8:30 am – 1 pm for a critique of each message. Please purchase the text, “From Pew to Pulpit” by Clifton F. Guthrie from Cokesbury or Amazon and read it before the class.
