Suicide Prevention Training—QPR is being held on Monday, January 26 at 6:30 pm at Friendship United Methodist Church. This training is open to all adults (18+) and no reservation is needed.
QPR is an emergency mental health intervention, much like CPR is for medical emergencies. It is designed to equip "gatekeepers"—anyone in a position to recognize a crisis, such as pastors, coaches, mentors, friends, family, teachers, or coworkers—with the skills to intervene and prevent suicide.
The practical training focuses on three simple steps:
Question: Learning how to ask directly about suicide in a compassionate manner.
Persuade: Encouraging the person to seek and accept professional help.
Refer: Connecting them with appropriate support services, such as mental health professionals, crisis hotlines (like 988 in the US), or emergency services.
**Please note that QPR training is not a form of counseling or treatment. It is practical training to offer hope toward positive action.
